Secrets in the Forest
Directed and produced by Rita Godbout
5 minutes •
2007
Available on DVD and VHS
Four Vancouver women reflect on their status as "culturally hybrid" in
the 21st century. All are Métis; all are conscious of how colonization
make their ancestors want to forget their heritage. Michelle LaFlamme
is a Ph.D. candidate, instructor and filmmaker; Tasha Fay Evans is an
actor and playwright who wrote and performs in a play called She Stands
Still; Reina Sinclair is an administrator in education and Luisa
Sanchez is Mitsoza from Nicaragua. The play makes them think about their
relationships, to nature, family, motherhood and their Aboriginal grandmothers.
