Following a successful evening at the Winnipeg Film Group Cinémathèque Thursday, October 24th, Alex MacKenzie and the Backbone: Early Vancouver Experimental Cinema package head east, joined by curator and director Richard Martin.
Thursday, November 7th, the package of 10 experimental shorts will be presented at 6:30 pm in the FREE SCREEN program at TIFF Bell Lightbox with Alex MacKenzie present for discussion following.
Saturday, November 9th, Richard Martin's engaging documentary BACKBONE: Vancouver Experimental Cinema will première at Innis Town Hall, University of Toronto. The 58-minute documentary will be followed by a selection of four experimental shorts by artists David Rimmer, Al Razutis, the late Michael McGarry and Sturla Gunnarsson. Richard Martin and Alex MacKenzie will be in attendance for discussion following this 90-minute program.
Admission is free to this celebration of Vancouver's contribution to Canadian experimental cinema made possible by financial assistance from the Canada Council for the Arts (Initiatives) and the Touring program of the British Columbia Arts Council.
Sunday, November 10th, the Backbone documentary and curated shorts package will be screening in Portland, Oregon as part of the 40th Northwest Filmmaker's Festival. Tickets and more information available here.
