Director/writer Karin Lee examines issues of identity, sexuality, and desire in her film, My Sweet Peony. An avid supporter of the arts and an active member of the Chinese-Canadian community since her early teens, Karin's diverse cultural background has served as inspiration for her delightful drama.
Born and raised in Vancouver, Karin received her B.A. in Chinese and English Literature from the University of British Columbia. Her multi-faceted career includes serving as a the Festival Arts programmer for the Asia-Pacific Festival, assisting with the formation of the In Visible Colours International Women of Colour and Third World Women's Film and Video Festival and Symposium, and travelling to Beijing to spend two years researching and translating "underground poetry" for her graduate studies at Beijing University. Karin lives and works in Vancouver, where she is currently producing a documentary about strict population control measures in China and the resulting impact on the female sector of the population.
