This quietly eloquent narrative film is rooted in real life experience. Robert and Ethan are an interracial gay couple who long to adopt a child.
After being chosen from a pool of hopeful adoptive parents by Victoria, a shy and very pregnant Asian birth mother, they meet with her and Susan, a social worker who helps the three of them navigate through the awkward, but often humorous, discussions of race, sexual orientation, and outlandish baby names.
Victoria eventually forges a bond with Robert and Ethan, who await their roles as adoptive parents with great anticipation. But when the unexpected happens, Robert's neuroticism and Ethan's anxiety about fatherhood threaten their relationship.
