Part of the Storytellers in motion series
This urban Cree storyteller was born and raised in Regina. Through his company Creerunner Communications, Rodger Ross has the conviction to make films for communication first rather than letting his vision be shaped by the narrow confines of mainstream media. Although he has never lived on his reserve, Ross assists people there in their communcations work.
His work over the past 26 years has focused on unique portraits and stories that celebrate the achievements of his people. Like a true artist, Ross understands that stories are given and need to be respected. His role in the process is that of a respectful listener, allowing the subject and the story to unfold naturally, a process that is diametrically opposite the ones used in mainstream media. It is these ethical convictions of the artistic process that keep his work out of the realm of mainstream media.
