Part of the Storytellers in motion series

As an on-air journalist in Manitoba from 1983 to 1992, Jim Compton was one of the first indigenous television reporters for the CBC. Now a mentor to a new generation of emerging indigenous filmmakers, he strives to pass on his commitment to detailing all layers of the story being told. In 1999 Compton was instrumental in helping to establish the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network in Winnipeg, acting as their first Director of Programming. Now an independent, he has produced several series including Pow Wow Trail in 2004 and 13 Stories About Love for CHUM TV. He talks about the importance of the indigenous voice within mainstream television and the impact that APTN has had on mainstream audiences.
